This is the perfect time to replace the lower control arm bushing and Eccentric Pin.
Loosen the front wheel bolts.
Raise and support the front end.
Remove the front tire.
Remove the spring, special spring compressor required.

Remove the lower shock absorber bolts.
Separate the lower ball joint from the lower control arm.
Mark the position, and remove the Eccentric Pin from the lower control arm.

Separate the lower control arm from the body.
Remove the lower spring seat plate from the lower control arm.
Remove the Guide rod to control arm mount bolt.
Remove the lower control arm from the car.
MARK the union threads of the guide rod mount, so you will know where to stop screwing on the new guide rod.

Loosen the clamp on #14 in the picture, and hold the guide rod mount with a wrench, while using a large pipe wrench to unscrew the old guide rod.

Lubricate the guide rod mount threads with grease, gently thread the new guide rod on by hand, as far as possible, then hold the guide rod mount with a wrench, while using a large pipe wrench to screw the new guide rod on, tighten the clamp on #14 in the picture.

Remove both of the inner control arm bushing caps.

Drive out the old inner control arm bushing.
Install the new inner control arm bushing.
Install the new inner control arm bushing caps, (a heavy thread or light fishing line works well to hold them in place for body installation).
Insert the guide rod into the lower control arm.
Use a floor jack to press the inner lower control arm into the body.
Use a large tapered punch to align the Eccentric Pin body holes with the lower control arm.
Install the new Eccentric Pin into the lower control arm, align it to the mark and tighten.
Install the Guide rod mount bushings.
Install the Guide rod to control arm mount bolt. (use Loctite thread adhesive)
Install the lower spring seat plate to the lower control arm. (use Loctite thread adhesive)
Install the spring, but do not release it yet.
Install the ball joint, and tighten. (use Loctite thread adhesive)
Install the lower shock absorber bolts. (use Loctite thread adhesive)
Release the spring compressor, and remove the tool.
Install front tire, and snug (best possible) wheel bolts.
Lower the car.
Torque all wheel bolts.

**3)** Loosen the clamp on #14 in picture.

Extreme precautions must be exercised if an oxygen acetylene torch is used.

**6)** Unscrew the guide rod mount from the guide rod.

**7)** Unscrew the four bolts from the Bearing Bracket backing plate.

**9)** Clean the guide rod mount pocket of the Bearing Bracket, the old steel sleeve must be removed to a clean aluminum surface.
**10)** Grease the Bearing Bracket pocket, axle grease is ok.
**11)** Grease the guide rod mount tension sleeve, axle grease is ok.

**12)** Press the guide rod mount by the sleeve; into the Bearing Bracket, stop when it is flush or roughly one mm above the surrounding surface.

**13)** Install the rubber impact buffer pad between the rear of the guide rod mount and the Bearing Bracket cover, finger tighten the four cover bolts.
**14)** Tighten the four bolts in the Bearing Bracket backing plate.

**15)** Screw the guide rod mount into the guide rod.

**16)** Install and tighten the bolts that hold the Bearing Bracket to the body.
**17)** "Loose" install all the bolts that hold the bracket joining the guide rod mounts.
**18)** Tighten all the bolts for the bracket joining the Left and Right Bearing Bracket.
**19)** Tighten the clamp on #14 in picture.

**21)** Remove front end supports and lower car.
**22)** Torque front wheel bolts.
If the Suspension Bearing Bracket is too corroded inside, don't repair or replace the guide rod mount, get a NEW Suspension Bearing Bracket !!!
**Note: this part number is the same for all W126 chassis.**

**4)** Remove the bracket that joins the Left and Right Bearing Brackets.

**7)** Unscrew the four bolts from the Bearing Bracket backing plate.

**8)** Press the guide rod mount from the Bearing Bracket.
**9)** Clean the guide rod mount pocket of the Bearing Bracket, the old steel sleeve must be removed to a clean aluminum surface.
**10)** Grease the Bearing Bracket pocket, axle grease is ok.
**11)** Grease the guide rod mount tension sleeve, axle grease is ok.

**12)** Press the guide rod mount by the sleeve; into the Bearing Bracket, stop when it is flush or roughly one mm above the surrounding surface.

**13)** Install the rubber impact buffer pad between the rear of the guide rod mount and the Bearing Bracket cover, finger tighten the four cover bolts.
**14)** Tighten the four bolts in the Bearing Bracket backing plate.
